Sophomore Year: Intertwining Two Histories
My sophomore year I took two AP classes, AP art history and AP European history. For one of the projects I did i intertwined the two classes making a timeline that fit both the time line of art periods and European History. This fits with Critical thinking because I had to think of how the two different histories intertwined with one another. I had also had to see how what was going on historically affected the art during that period of time.

The Pledge of Allegiance Essay we were to addressed the controversy of the words "under God" being in the pledge. I had to argue the opposing side of what my view thought. If I thought that the words "under God" should be taken away, then I had to argue on why they should be kept.
It is an example of critical thinking because I had to think in a different way than I normally do. I had to change my perspective on the way I look at things, something that proved to be harder than it seemed |
Senior Year: Being a Chemist
This year I took U of U General Chemistry and along with it U of U General Chemistry Lab. There were a few labs called self directed lab where we had to come up with our own procedure that fit the objective. We were then to perform the procedure, come up with results, and have a conclusions. These labs were often examples of applied chemistry. One Lab we did was the Dystan medical supply company that created hot packs and cold packs. The objective of the lab was to figure out which salts should be used for the hot packs and which for the cold packs while also minimizing the cost of production.
This fits with critical thinking because my lab partner and I had to use our knowledge of labs previously done to come up with a procedure to get the results we wanted. We also had to come up with all the calculations that would be used. The lab, and completing the objective, was one big puzzle piece. We had all the pieces we needed, we just had to figure out how to put them together to get the desired results. It took a lot of critical thinking to come up with a procedure of our own
